Inspired by Silhouettes
I came across this fantastic article via Country Living and had to share it with you! "Silhouette art has charmed us for centuries. Now, it's making a comeback on pretty new products to live with and wear." Where did silhouettes first originate? They used to be called "shades," and sometimes "profiles," "likenesses," or "shadow pictures." They first appeared in the late 1600s -paper-cut profiles as an alternative to traditional painted portraits. They were cheaper and much faster than sitting for hours on end. Although the art itself might be several hundred years old, incorporating silhouettes into home decor and fashion looks anything but stuffy and dated! There are countless ways to add interest to a room with silhouettes. I'm totally inspired now to create a few of my own...

Sweet Words for Your Walls
Rockett St George continues to be one of my favorite online stores for unique finds. They have such an eclectic mix of gifts and home decor - trendy, stylish, modern and a little off-the-wall. I just adore their latest in wall decor. These antiqued wooden signs are fantastic and really say it all! I'd like to give one to my husband - maybe hang it right above his desk :) Which one is your favorite?

I received an email from a company called Bloompapers and when I visited their website to see what they were all about, I was pleasantly surprised! Here's a little about who they are in their own words, "We offer you the chance to adorn your walls with large digitally printed images and to see your home or workplace as never before. Using exclusive works by contemporary artists, an extensive selection of our own images and the option to turn your own photos into a wall mural, Bloompapers gives you an original and innovative solution to your home when anything else just won´t do..." All of the wall murals are designed exclusively by up and coming European artists and can be shipped to anywhere in the world! Talk about a great way to create an amazing art wall! Featured Artist: Catherine Nolin
Catherine emailed me a couple months back and introduced me to her work, which I've been meaning to share with all of you! She is very talented and I enjoy her work because it's so colorful and bold, which makes it very memorable to me. Catherine is a self taught artist and mostly paints room portraits..."which are commission pieces of actual client's rooms. These paintings include special objects, pets, books, artwork etc that are meaningful." She enjoys combining patterns, colors and objects of design in her work. She has sold her work all over the world and gives back to charity as often as she can. You can see more of her art in her Etsy shop, her website and blog.

Special Give Away!
belle maison just celebrated it's 1 year anniversary! To express my gratitude and sincere appreciation to all of you for your continued support of my blog and comments that keep me inspired daily, I decided to do a give-away! One of you lucky winners will receive an 8 1/2" x 11" print of an original painting from one of my favorite artists, Hadley Hutton!
All you need to do is leave a comment answering this question: what would you like to see more of or learn more about regarding interior design? (where to find the best resources, bedroom ideas, organization, choosing color, etc.)...I'll randomly select a winner by drawing a number and announce the winner on Tuesday, March 24th. The winner will then get to select the print of their choice from here, valued @ $25 (there were too many to choose from! I figured I'd let you decide). Thanks again to everyone and good luck!

I've had an admiration for butterflies ever since I was a young girl. What has always captivated me about these tiny creatures are their unique color combinations and perfect patterns. They are graceful and delicate and can be a great source for inspiration in design! Butterflies are making their way back in to the world of fashion and interior design which makes me smile :)
