Quote of the Week

"Decorating for yourself is agony. It's easy to figure out what will make someone else happy. It's easy to make someone else's dreams come true. But to get into your own head as a decorator is hard because you're exposed to so many things."
- Robert Kime

"Assumption is the mother of screw-up."
- Angelo Rafael Donghia

"Good design has to tell a story. It has to stop people, and it has to make them wonder. Good design is a conversation."

- Zahid Sardar
"Whether it's fine arts or music or architecture, the most compelling works are finessed and manipulated so subtly that you're barely aware of the artist's hand."

- Scott Johnson, Architect

"If you think you're meeting your destiny on the other side of a door you may not be interested in its design."
- Ettore Sottsass

"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing."
- George Bernard Shaw

Did everyone have a great Christmas?! I sure did. It's always wonderful to get together with family to celebrate and eat and drink and eat some more...(the treadmill is calling my name!). I thought I'd wrap up this year's "Quote of the Week" post with several great quotes by designers and architects. Enjoy and have a great week (hopefully you're off work and relaxing!).

  1. I so agree with the first quote.... my house will be built in 4 months time... I'm scared... where do I start with the fit out and decorating?! I know all about the treadmill calling. My local gym was packed this morning. I was only there as I had committed to a session with my trainer... deliberately! Enjoy your week! A-M xx

  2. Hi Julie, great quotes. And I'm LOVING the wooden door in the last photo. Would love to see the full image *swoon*
Have a great new year --Jane T.

  3. hi julie! hoping you had a great christmas, i too ate too much. but that's the fun right? great quotes! looking forward to getting back into blogging now that the holiday craziness is past........have a happy monday. :)

  4. I AGREE... it is difficult to decorate one's own home... most of my house is done... HOWEVER... I have been looking and trying to decide what I want for baseboards throughout my home and a fireplace mantle for almost 4 years!
Good to hear you ENJOYED the holidays!

  5. That quote is so true...especially after blogging! You just don't know which direction to head into!

  6. All these quotes are great. and true! Glad you had great holidays, hope you are still relishing in the "after glow" of family and love.

  7. What a great collage of beautiful images. I'm stuck on your first quote, i feel like that rings true for me time and time again! How can you pick just one thing with so many options?

  8. hope you had a great holiday!!

  9. Yes, I'm off work and relaxing.
