DIY Bookshelves...made with Books!

You gotta love Real Simple for all of their easy, breezy DIY projects and organization tips! All you need to complete this clever little project are some old books (pretty ones are a plus!), some hardware and a drill. I love the colorful books they used and all of the interesting "found" objects neatly displayed. In case anyone would like to take a stab at this project, I've included the instructions below. What do you think?!

DIY book shelves (literally) via realsimple.com

Find some cloth or leather-bound books with beautiful spines that will work well together as a grouping.

Buy two sets of brackets, using one set for below the books and a single bracket for above. Measure the thickness of each book and start drilling.

Slide each book between the top and bottom brackets before placing light-weight objects on it.

Voila! Enjoy your new "book" shelves!

  3. That is so clever! When I left school, my English literature teacher gifted me a gorgeous collection of vintage books. But I don't think I could bear to use them as shelves, although it looks very quirky.

I'm looking for shelves to go above my as-yet unbought desk - not sure which table to go for - both of them are here, would love your style design tips!

  6. i think ideas like this really are genius. one of my favorite things is to wander places like hardware stores or the home depots of the world and imagine what i can do with some of the objects, use them in ways they are not meant for. it's sooooooooo fun! i did that with my chocolate shop alot :)

  15. I love that care was taken to preserve the books b/c it is such a great look. I like the other readers idea of using the "book" shelves to hold other books too. Very cool and I would love to see it with scroll brackets if they could be found small enough for the bottom ...http://www.carolinarustica.com/images/500/CR1015B.jpg
