Christmas Decorating Ideas: 5 Themes + Color Schemes

Can you believe it's December already? I'm really starting to feel the excitement of the Christmas season and am especially looking forward to decorating our apartment and tree this weekend! Instead of going with the traditional red & green color combo we're so used to seeing, I like to change it up every year. Last year I went with a black, white and kelley green color scheme and the year before that I mixed fuchsia and kelley green with pops of silver. This year I haven't decided which direction to go, so I created 5 different color schemes and design themes to choose from. I'm really leaning toward #3...so glamorous! But you know how much I love color...I'll keep you posted on what I decide! What about you? Any of these looks spark some inspiration for your own home?

#1. Vintage Chic - pretty shades of plum, fuchsia,  lavender and pink highlighted with hints of metallic silver & gold.

******
#2. Modern Winter Wonderland - cool shades of periwinkle, bright blue, and emerald green accented with antique mercury glass and matte silver.

******

#3. Luxe Noir - a glamorous approach to holiday decorating; bold colors of velvety black, charcoal gray, and deep gold, accented with bits of metallic silver and white. (image styled by Will @ Bright Bazaar for Rue Magazine)

#4. Retro Chic - a fresh and simple look, with shades of seafoam and mint green accented with bold candy apple red.

******
#5. Traditional Mod - a fresh and vibrant twist on traditional red & green! Three different shades of green: grass, lime and jade, accented with pops of crimson red. I'm in love with the feather garland in this photo!!!

  1. I just love the retro chic palette - seafoam is one of my favourite shades. For Christmas, its fresh and slightly quirky feel is perfect for celebrating the festive season in Sydney!

  12. What a great post! I'd love to change things up with my holiday decor every year, but typically I keep the same theme for a couple of years and then rotate things around! I've had a red, dark green and lime green thing going on for two years now (very similar to your 'traditional mod' color scheme.)I had planned to change things up this year but I've decided not to spend any money on new Christmas decor (we're saving every penny for our upcoming wedding!) You can see a picture of my fireplace over on my blog if you are interested!
