7 Ways to Add Unexpected Accents to Your Home

It's always fun to throw an unexpected accent into a space. You know, that one piece of furniture or cool accessory that grabs your attention immediately? I gathered together some awesome spaces that feature one or more bold accents that really make the room memorable. Do you have any memorable accents in your home? What are some other ways you'd add an unexpected accent to a space?

{1. Brightly upholstered accent chair - choose a bold pattern that will stand out}

{2. Paint the back of a bookcase or shelving a vibrant color to make all of the accessories pop}

{3. Mix and match your dining chairs and/or make the host and hostess chairs oversized and dramatic}

{4. Instead of a cocktail table, use an ottoman upholstered in a large pattern}

{5. Mix and match drapery panels! A fun idea for a guest bedroom, kid's room or craft room}

{6. Mix modern wallpaper with traditional accents}

 {7. Paint a bold pattern on the floor - what a great idea for an entryway! Mary McDonald is queen of this technique.}

  2. I love the use of the ottoman instead of a table!

    When I was younger, my dad and I made a faux - Pollock painting with yellow tones, and I have to say, it is quite a wonderful statement piece in our dark purple living room :)
