What makes a space extraordinary?

This is one of the questions I was asked yesterday during a casting call I attended for a new show on HGTV! I was contacted by a casting director last week who stumbled across my blog and thought I might fit the part for a new design show they have in the works. I've never auditioned for anything and was pretty darn nervous...but I did my best to answer the questions they asked and one of them was "what makes a space extraordinary?" My answer was along the lines of: scale, balance, texture, color...all of these elements play an important part in creating a space that looks and feels amazing. Every space should have a touch of the unexpected or a "wow" factor - something that catches your eye and is memorable. It can be bold such as a graphic wallpaper that pops or something more subtle, like an accessory that makes for a great conversation piece or a really amazing light fixture...I pulled together some spaces that I consider to be "extraordinary" for a various reasons. What do you think makes a space extraordinary? I always love reading your comments and input!
***Have a fabulous weekend! I'll keep you posted on what happens next with my little audition! I'm keeping my fingers crossed...xoxo - Julie

  13. Hi Julie,
I called once for a casting call, too. And, then I learned that I'd have to leave my family for several months. I'm new to blogging and this world. It's very flattering, but I think they ask too much! Your site is simply fabulous and well...eye candy! I recently launched a blog too (uh, like last week), but up here in Nor.Cal. http://leezadesigns.com/blog/

  15. I think it is mainly the person who lives in a place that makes a space extraordinary. The personality and the interior should harmonize whatever style and design is used in the house.
