Kasthall Rugs

I'm excited to introduce you to a company I recently learned about, which has the most incredible line of rugs! Kasthall has been designing and manufacturing unique woven and handtufted rugs since 1889. Since its foundation the company has been operating from its own factory in Kinna, an area rich in textile manufacturing history in the west of Sweden, which is where they make their rugs today. They care a great deal for the environment and are environmentally certified, which is always a plus! If any of you are in the trade and happen to be attending the "What's New What's Next" event at the New York Design Center today, be sure to swing by their showroom to see their collection of amazing rugs. The following are a few snapshots from the showroom, as well as a few of my favorites from their [huge] selection via their website. Enjoy!

Idea Gallery: Area Rugs

I've been on the hunt for an area rug for our living room for...um...well...about 2 years now. Talk about indecisive, right?! I can easily select an area rug for a client but when it comes to my own home, well, it's a whole different story. My husband and I live in a large one bedroom apartment, where the main living area is one big open space. We have our dining area / design library (makes for an interesting combo) and then our living room with a giant sectional, coffee table, etc. What's always bothered me is the "sea" of beige apartment of carpet that dominates the entire space, which is where the need for an area rug comes in. Most people only think of using a rug on hard surface flooring, but you can also use over carpet to define the area as its own space. What are your thoughts on area rugs? Do you prefer pattern, texture, solid...please share! P.S. - be sure to see my list of online rug resources below...

Amy Butler for Chandra Rugs

I'm a huge fan of Amy Butler's work. Her designs are always fresh and beautiful, and I especially love her fabrics. I just discovered that she's recently designed a line of area rugs for Chandra. Here's what Amy has to say about the her latest venture, "these rugs are truly handmade (I've seen it!). From the hand-tufting & dying of the 100% New Zealand wool, to the hand-carving of the designs by masters using special scissors. There are 19 rugs in the collection - 13 designs, six of which are colored in two colorways. They are all based on my fabrics and bedding prints!" I've put together a collection of my favorites - enjoy! Click here to view the entire collection. Have a wonderful weekend!

Not Your Grandma's Wall Tapestries...

I love visiting the Rug Company website from time to time for inspiration. They offer such innovative and gorgeous collections of rugs, pillows, and wall hangings and have a wonderful roomsets and inspiration gallery. I rounded up some fantastic wall tapestries that are a refreshing new take on the heavy old traditional tapestries one might envision when hearing the word! Enjoy and have a wonderful weekend!
