Polka Dots for Grown-ups

Polka dots have been on trend for quite some time now, both in fashion and interiors. While this pattern isn't anything new to the world of design and has definitely come and gone (as most trends do), there's just something timeless and classic about a good polka dot print. What I'm liking right now are interiors that incorporate the polka dot pattern in a more sophisticated way. This print isn't just for nurseries and kids rooms - when used in the right way in the right scale, polka dots can add a whimsical touch without making a space feel too youthful. Today I've rounded up some great examples of how you can incorporate this fun pattern into your decor while still keeping things somewhat "grown-up." How do you feel about polka dots? Would you incorporate them into your home?

Add a Touch of Tangerine to Your World

As many of you may already know, the Pantone color of the year for 2012 is Tangerine Tango.  I'm absolutely loving this shade of orange and have been seeing it popping up in home decor and fashion. Because orange is such a warm and vibrant color, a little can go a long way when used in the home. I've rounded up several fabulous interiors that have successfully used colors similar to Tangerine Tango, along with a style board of tangerine accents you can incorporate into your own home. What do you think of this color? What other color would you pair it with in interiors and/or fashion?

Pantone describes the color in these words: “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

Street Style from Fall 2012 Fashion Shows

Photoblogger Tommy Ton shares his amazing photos with Style.com, where he captured the street style of those who have attended the 2012 Fall fashion shows. I'm loving all of the vibrant colors emerging in fashion and home decor! It's so much fun to see how people mix and match color and pattern in their wardrobes. There's a ton of color and style inspiration in each of these photos - my head is spinning with new design scheme ideas for future projects :). Click here to view the entire gallery.

I'm taking part of the day off today to get my nails done and do some shopping for the baby's nursery. My baby shower is tomorrow, which I can't believe! Time is flying by with this pregnancy, as I'm about to enter into my 8th month. I'll take lots of pictures of the shower and share them with you next week. Have a great weekend! xoxo - Julie

Katherine Rally Textiles

Thanks to a very nice email from this fabulous company, I discovered Katherine Rally Textiles today and fell in love! The story behind this husband and wife owned business is a great one...he's an architect and she's a designer. Kathy, Rally and their two small children decided to hit the road when the economy bit the dust and relocated to the island paradise of Bali, Indonesia. Surrounded by stunning beauty, they created their own line of batiks inspired by their love of travel, textiles and design. Needless to say, their collection of fabrics and pillows is absolutely stunning and I can't wait to use them in future projects! Here are a few snapshots from their online gallery. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

Kasthall Rugs

I'm excited to introduce you to a company I recently learned about, which has the most incredible line of rugs! Kasthall has been designing and manufacturing unique woven and handtufted rugs since 1889. Since its foundation the company has been operating from its own factory in Kinna, an area rich in textile manufacturing history in the west of Sweden, which is where they make their rugs today. They care a great deal for the environment and are environmentally certified, which is always a plus! If any of you are in the trade and happen to be attending the "What's New What's Next" event at the New York Design Center today, be sure to swing by their showroom to see their collection of amazing rugs. The following are a few snapshots from the showroom, as well as a few of my favorites from their [huge] selection via their website. Enjoy!

Missoni for Target Fury

I don't usually vent or complain about things on my blog, but for some reason, this really has me riled up! I just want to say how disappointed I am in the people who took advantage of such an incredible collaboration by purchasing tons of Missoni for Target merchandise only to resell everything on eBay for up to 6 TIMES the original price!!! Seriously, I saw this throw, regularly priced at $39.99, being sold on eBay for $245!!! This was an exciting opportunity for many of us to purchase Missoni at an affordable price, which is now no longer an option since thousands of [greedy] re-sellers have hoarded the product line only to make a profit. So many of you left comments on my post Tuesday with the same frustrations (except for my client Clara, who SCORED at her local Target!). There were so many of us, all across the country, who excitedly arrived at Target bright and early on the day of the launch, only to leave empty handed (and watch others leave with shopping carts filled with 15 boxes of shoes and 5 suitcases - I really did). I even read on one girls blog that someone tried to steal stuff out of her cart! Really?!! Okay, I just needed to get that out. Anyone else need to vent? Go ahead and leave your comments here! (P.S. - "Anonymous" comments will be deleted, unless you leave your name and/or website).

My Latest Obsession: Warm Gold Finishes

Hello and Happy Friday! Ever since I returned home from the Las Vegas Market, I can't stop thinking about all of the gold metallic accents I saw from showroom to showroom. I'm not talking about shiny or flashy gold - I'm talking about soft, matte, warm gold finishes on everything from furniture to accessories to lighting. There's something so alluring about rich gold finishes and a little really does goes a long way (like with gold jewelry). In my own home, I've been living with polished nickel finishes and dark espresso wood stains for way too long...that cool, contemporary look used to be my style, but my taste has changed a lot over the years. Now I'm craving the warmth of gold, mixed with pops of color and lots of texture. I may just have to makeover my living room this weekend...I don't know if I can take it anymore! My husband will probably roll his eyes at me, but I'm sure some of you know how it is - you get an idea in your head and at some point, you just have to make it happen. We'll see - time and money permitting...I'll keep you posted! Have a great weekend everyone :) xoxo - Julie

P.S. If you haven't already, please take a moment to enter an exciting giveaway I'm hosting this week, where you have a chance to WIN an art print from 20x200 AND a custom frame from West Elm! Click here for details. Winner will be announced on Monday.
