Out & About...

Please check out my guest post for Dwellings & Decor here...Rachel asked me to post something for her while she's away in Ireland getting married! You can also find me today at Ofifteenmag, where I contribute weekly interior design posts...but be sure to check them out after you read up on featured artist Catherine Nolin in the post below! Enjoy :)

Featured Artist: Catherine Nolin

Catherine emailed me a couple months back and introduced me to her work, which I've been meaning to share with all of you! She is very talented and I enjoy her work because it's so colorful and bold, which makes it very memorable to me. Catherine is a self taught artist and mostly paints room portraits..."which are commission pieces of actual client's rooms. These paintings include special objects, pets, books, artwork etc that are meaningful." She enjoys combining patterns, colors and objects of design in her work. She has sold her work all over the world and gives back to charity as often as she can. You can see more of her art in her Etsy shop, her website and blog.

Design Style: Vintage French

I love this style - it's so feminine, whimsical and sophisticated. The color palette of various shades of white, soft pinks and greys, mixed with rustic wood floors, painted metal chandeliers and supple fabrics, are what makes this design style so beautiful. Shown above: I discovered these fabulous vintage inspired custom signs via The Back Porch Shoppe on Etsy!

All (3) of these unique pieces are from gardenhouse - one-of-a-kind refurbished vintage accents.

Quote of the Week

“Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.”

- Brian Tracy

Did you all have a nice weekend? I sure did! I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you wonderful ladies who left such supportive, encouraging and thoughtful comments on Friday's post. My friend was very thankful for your kind words!

Think Pink

I received an email from a dear friend yesterday, whom I've known since the 2nd grade, and she informed me that she was diagnosed with breast cancer just a couple of months ago - she's only 29 years old. She said that she noticed something didn't feel right last fall but had to be very persistent to get a proper diagnosis, mostly because of her age. Thank God she listened to her body and pushed for answers...some women are told that they're fine and when they discover the truth, it's too late. She's scheduled to have a mastectomy in 3 weeks. I'd like to dedicate this post to her, with lovely images of all things pink, to let her know that I'm here to support her as she fights this battle, and to remind us all to take care of our bodies and to get checked out when we feel something isn't quite right. I know many of you have been affected by this disease, either personally or through a friend or family member. Some great resources and organizations for breast cancer are Susan G.Koman ; Network of Strength; BreastCancer.org.

Color Scheme: Black & Yellow

Ever since discovering the incredible work of Kelly Wearstler and her phenomenal design for the Viceroy Hotel in Palm Springs, I've been hooked on the bold color scheme of black and yellow. This scheme looks great when accented with crisp white or soft shades of grey, which can either make the the black and yellow pop or tone them down, depending on how they're used.
