Quote of the Week

“Modesty is great, and quietness is nice, but sometimes it’s much more fun to be decadent.”

- Robin Standefer, Interior Designer

*****
I hope you had a nice weekend! Today I'm attending the first part of the Design Bloggers Conference at the Sofitel Hotel in LA! This event is featuring some pretty fabulous guest speakers like Grace Bonney of Design Sponge, Cassandra LaValle of Coco+Kelley, Jan Showers, Tobi Fairley, Michelle Adams of Lonny, and many more amazing people in the design / blogging industry. I have my camera in hand, a notebook to jot down important info to report back, and my Blackberry to tweet and facebook as we go! Can't wait to share with you :) Are any of you attending? Let me know so we can meet up at some point!

Weekend Read: My Vibe My Life

Have you heard?! Kelly Wearstler (one of my favorites designers of all time) has a new blog called My Vibe My Life! Just a few posts deep, this blog offers an inside look into Kelly's life as a designer, all in her own words, along with personal snapshots of what she's up to these days. Be sure to read her latest post which gives a sneak peek at her first ready-to-wear collection, which she introduced at New York Fashion Week. She also has a jewelry collection in the works...how does she do it all?! Click here to visit her blog for lots of inspiration :)  Enjoy your weekend!!! xoxo - Julie

Where to Shop: Room Service

Oh, how I love Room Service! They have such a fantastic selection of furniture, accessories, pillows and so much more. They have store locations in LA, Newport Beach, and San Francisco. I have plans to visit the Newport location at Fashion Island soon, which I'll definitely blog about. If you don't live in CA, no worries! They have a fabulous website which showcases all of their amazing and unique pieces. Here's a round-up of room scenes found in their Flickr gallery that inspire me in so many ways (the creative wheels are spinning in my head with so many ideas). What do you think? Are you loving their product & unique style? Anyone been to one of their stores in CA?

Inspiration Snapshot: Striped Hallway

Lots of inspiration in this narrow hallway! The wide black & white horizontal stripes transform this otherwise insignificant hallway into a grand space, drawing attention to the high ceiling. The turquoise chandelier adds a pop of color and the striped runner keeps everything grounded. I love how the owners (Jane and Billy Pritchard of Stray Dog Designs) created a photo wall on both sides with random frames in various finishes. See the rest of this house via Country Living!

Clearly Chic

I've had an obsession with Lucite/acrylic furniture for a while now and lately, I seem to be noticing it everywhere. Who knew crystal clear, see-through furniture could look so chic and be used in so many different ways? Chairs, cocktail and console tables, bench and ottoman legs, desks, light fixtures...the list goes on and on. And the best part is that you can place a piece of Lucite/acrylic furniture in just about any setting - modern, traditional, industrial, rustic...as you'll see in the gallery of photos I've pulled together. I'm especially in love with the Louis Style acrylic dining chairs from Room Service (image #14). Those have been officially added to my ongoing / neverending home decor "wish list"! What do you think about this furniture style? Would you use it in your own home?

"The most important thing about color is that it cannot be isolated...Every color is only ever seen in juxtaposition with other ones."
