Olioboard Holiday Blog Hop & Moodboard Challenge

Today I'm taking a break from my Guest Blogger Holiday Gift Pick series (which will resume tomorrow) to share the exciting design challenge I was asked to participate in from Olioboard. Olioboard is a great website that allows you to create your very own interior design moodboards using their extensive library of products and images, or you can upload your own. It's kind of a simplified version of Photoshop and the sky's the limit on what you can create! I was asked along with a handful of other bloggers to join in on the fun and create a moodboard centered around a decorating concept for the holiday season. Here's what I came up with...

For those of you who know me, you know I love color and strive to design "outside of the box", which is why I decided to stray from the traditional red and green Christmas color combo and go for something bold and edgy. I centered my moodboard around the colors fuchsia, black, silver and white. Definitely NOT what most people associate with Christmas decor, but as you can see from the items I pulled together, it can definitely be done tastefully. A few helpful tips on achieving this look:

* Try keeping a neutral backdrop with gray, silver and white. Layer in pops of color with accessories and ornaments to keep things from getting too busy and bright.

* A little bit of fuchsia goes a long way, so use it sparingly (I chose to incorporate a pink tree and flowers as the primary pink accents for this design).

* Instead of placing an arrangement of flowers in a vase, float single blooms in stemless wine glasses for a modern and sophisticated twist.

* To keep the overall look festive, be sure to incorporate shiny silver accents into the decor.

* And finally, have FUN while decorating for Christmas! Try new things, be open to fresh ideas and don't stress over any of it!

  2. This is almost exactly what I did for my Christmas decorations this year. Plenty of silver some white, crystals, black, and fuschia! I love it so much.

  3. Hey Julie, I love that you tossed aside the traditional colour schemes and create a fresh new take on decorating for the holidays. Great idea for the flowers in wine glasses. Very Pretty. I have a cousin that would simply die for this look. Last year she decorated her house in gold, silver and black, including a black tree. It was pretty wild but really well done. I'll tell her to stop by to check out your post. Thanks so much for joining in on our Holiday Blog Hop. Hope you had fun. Sheilah

  7. I love the colors in your moodboard. I just talked to one of my colleague about using black and pale pink for Christmas decors - and she was just No Way! I thought it was the pale pink who scared her, but it was the black... so I'm happy to see you think black is ok for Christmas too :-)
