Inspiration Snapshot: Bathroom Bliss

Just popping in to say hello! How was your Christmas? Can you believe it's over now? We had a wonderful time with my family yesterday and are actually continuing the celebration today at my in-laws. After being on vacation the last 2 weeks and barely blogging, I'm beginning to have withdrawls from interior design! While the baby is still sleeping this morning, I decided to quickly hop online to soak up a little inspiration. I found this fun bathroom via Lonny (December issue) and love it! The high headboard and wide moulding around the door make the ceiling appear higher, a great trick for small spaces. And the striped walls? Hello! I like the vintage mirror and traditional rug - great eclectic pieces to tie the whole look together. And let's not forget that black door - another unexpected accent that makes the whole design pop! Enjoy the rest of your week :)

A Few of My Latest Pins...

Pinterest has become one of my new best friends! With all of the images I find online on a daily basis, it's great to have a place to save them all, complete with a link to where each image came from. Over the weekend I rearranged some of my boards and added lots of fresh new photos. Here are some of my favorites! And if you haven't joined Pinterest, I encourage you to do so! Follow me and I follow you back :) Now I'm off to Old Towne Orange to do some shopping for the upcoming One Kings Lane Blogger Tastemaker Sale I've been asked to be a part of! I'll share more details later this week. Wishing you a fabulous and productive Tuesday.

Lighting Ideas for the Powder Bath

I spent some time yesterday searching for the perfect light fixture to go in a client's powder bathroom. Originally, I envisioned one 3 - 4 light decorative bar fixture to mount above the mirror (kind of like this)...that is until I started noticing [just about EVERYWHERE] that people are illuminating their powder bathrooms with a pair of matching wall sconces, mounted on either side of the bathroom mirror. Hello - where have I been?! After rounding up so many great examples for this post, I'm definitely all for wall sconces in lieu of the traditional bar light fixture, especially for the powder bath. Sconces are great for creating ambiance and can look so classy and chic. See my top wall sconce picks at the end of this post! What type of lighting do you prefer in a powder or guest bath?

Quote of the Week

"I love, love, love powder rooms. They're these exquisite little jewel boxes that you give to your guests, and they should be just over-the-top fabulous. Since it doesn't need to be a practical space for day-to-day living, let it be a showstopper."

Inspiration 101: Bathroom Decor

I long for the day where my husband and I actually own a house, so I can do whatever my little heart desires to the interior, without worrying about having to "un-do" it one day! I love the apartment we live in and have made lots of changes to the place...I just dread the day when I have to paint it all back white (and repair all the holes in the walls, etc...). Our poor bathroom is stark white and lacking big time in the decor department (I know, shame on me). I've pulled together some inspirational photos of some fabulous bathrooms I can dream about...until then, I'll have to find some temporary solutions for my "rental"! Which bathroom would you love to call your own?

Happy Friday

I loved everyone's take on the most important room in the home! For me, the most important room is the Family Room. It's where my husband and I relax together and catch up, where we entertain and guests can make themselves comfortable, and it's the place we spend the most of our time. Here's how all of your answers panned out...

The # 1 favorite space, hands down, was the kitchen / dining area. The kitchen is a significant place to many of you simply because it's a place to gather together with loved ones, prepare and eat wonderful food and enjoy good conversation. As Callie describes it, it's where "your heart & soul is fed with love, laughter and food." The kitchen is always the place people congregate during a party, no matter how small or crowded it is!
The bedroom is also very important to many of you. As Eve puts it, "it's my place to rest, for refuge, to dream." And Lindsey said, " I surround myself with cherished items that bring me joy. It needs to be both soothing at the end of a long day, as well as invigorating when you wake up. That is a very difficult balance to achieve. It is my sanctuary, my haven, my own private island."

The living room was another place many of you love to gather with family and friends, talk, relax and play bored games. "It's the room where I clock in many hours watching Lost and Sex in the City re-runs, read, welcome and entertain friends...it is also the first impression visitors get of your home." (Quote via the sale rack).
The bathroom is a special place to Georgia, because, "it can be a spa or retreat, and the possibilities for design are endless..." That's for sure! There are so many incredible things you can do to transform a bathroom...by adding a fancy tub, crystal chandelier, lovely wall paper, glass mosaic tiles - the sky's the limit.
The home office is one incredibly important space, especially for those of us who work from home. Jennifer Ramos described her home office as a place "where I can create and connect with the outside world via my laptop! The decor in my office brightens my day and inspires me."

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! I'll be expanding on each of these very important rooms in future posts. Meet you all back here next week :) Au revoir!

Splish Splash...

I discovered this funky "bathtub" called the Dutchtub, which was created to give people the opportunity to take a nice warm bath anywhere in the world, as long there’s water and wood! You can literally take this tub anywhere - just load it into your truck or strap on to a small trailer attached to your car, wheel it to the spot of your choice (the forest, beach, a friend's house), fill with water, toss in firewood to the attached coil and ignite fire; as soon as the water is nice and hot, hop in and enjoy. What a fantastic concept - who doesn't love a nice relaxing bath, especially if it's on the beach at sunset! Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas...a girl can dream, right?
